World War I draft registration cards are a great alternative source for birth dates (and sometimes places), particularly for southern states which typically did not legislate civil registration of births until after 1900.
The WW I draft cards contain information which pertains to and was supplied by each of the twenty-four million registrants: name, address, birth date, age, race, citizenship, occupation, etc. The cards are arranged in alphabetical order first by state, thereunder by local board, and thereunder by individual registrant.
This site offers a searchable database of men who registered in Pickens County.
