Many state agencies include a state archives. Other states, however, combine a state library (some states do not operate a state library) and archives. We also find that other states have an agency called a historical society, but do not have department called an archives or state library.
Although only one agency has been chosen per state in the table immediately below, individuals are encouraged to use their favorite search engine or combination of search engines to look for additional state historical collections.
